Profile
Equality
The realization of equality between women and men is strived for in all processes of the university. The legal basis for this is Article 3 of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germanny, Section 4 of the Baden-Württemberg Higher Education Act and the Equal Opportunities Act.
The strategic basis of the equality policy measures is the university's equality plan. The Equality Plan is part of the Structure and Development Plan and, in its current version, names the following goals for the years 2023 to 2027:
- Increase the proportion of women in top academic positions.
- Career and personnel development for young female scientists
- Acquisition of female students or students for subjects in which they are underrepresented
- Gender balance in the non-scientific sector
- Reconciliation of academic research/work and family
- Implementation of gender mainstreaming
The Equality Plan 2023-27 can be found below under downloads.
Reports on RWU's gender equality work are published in the annual reports.
You can find more on the topic of reconciling career or studies and family on the pages of the family-friendly university.
Diversity
Diversity means for us at RWU: We see the great variety of students as an opportunity for a lively, rich university culture and at the same time as an obligation to realize equal opportunities and to protect against discrimination. Regardless of nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disabilities and current life circumstances, all students should feel welcome and participate in university life.
To make this happen, we want to strengthen what unites us and promote openness, empathy and appreciation.
Responsibilities and Committees
Gender Equality is anchored in the structure of RWU as a staff unit of the Rectorate. The Equal Opportunity Officer works together with all bodies, institutions and members of the university to achieve real equality between women and men and the elimination of existing disadvantages for women working in academia and female students.
In the area of non-scientific personnel, the Equal Opportunity Officer works towards the equality of women and men.
The Equal Opportunity Commission is an advisory senate committee and supports the university in matters of gender equality and diversity.

Special STEM offers for girls
Girls' Day at RWU
Girls' Day, a nationwide day of action specifically for girls, takes place on April 27. The aim is to get schoolgirls interested in STEM subjects and professions. RWU is also taking part with a varied program.
For female scientists
Become a professor
RWU strives to recruit more women as professors and welcomes applications from women for advertised professorships.
Information on the job description of an HAW professorship, the requirements, application procedures as well as other RWU offers can be found on the page Pathways to professorship.
RWU, together with the other universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg and the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, offers the menotring and qualification programme "Traumberuf Professorin Plus". "Traumberuf Professorin Plus" is aimed at women from business or administration backgrounds as well as (post-)doctoral researchers who are interested in a professorship at a university of applied sciences or a corporate state university. The joint project is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Ministry of Science and Art of Baden-Württemberg (MWK).
The Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften in Baden-Württemberg und der Dualen Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (LaKof BW) also supports you on your way to a professorship. LaKof BW offers information evenings and seminars as well as other general information on the topic of professorships. You can find more information on the pages of the LaKof BW.
We recommend registration in the Datenbank Professorin (HAW/DHBW) of the LaKof BW. Via the database, advertisements for professorships but also for teaching positions can be searched for and subscribed to by e-mail. RWU also publishes advertised professorships in the database. Likewise, female experts, mentors and interested parties can be found via the database and we, as well as other universities, use the database to actively recruit women.
Doctorate
We have also set ourselves the goal of increasing the proportion of women in the area of doctoral studies. More about doctoral support at RWU can be found on our research pages.
Teaching experience
With the Mathilde Planck Teaching Program (MPL), the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg promotes the awarding of teaching assignmens to women. The goal is to support women in gaining teaching experience to qualify for an HAW professorship. If you are interested in receiving funding in the program and have not held a teaching assignment at RWU in the last two semesters, please contact us. More information about the MPL and the requirements can also be found on the pages of the LaKof BW.
