A university classically trains the next generation of researchers and scientists. For this reason, you learn more theories and methods in university studies, which ideally prepare you for a scientific career.

At universities of applied sciences, you also learn theoretical basics but not to the same extent as at a university. Here, the focus is on application-oriented learning which means that you apply what you have learned in practice. In most cases, you complete a practical semester at a university of applied sciences - a complete semester in a company of your choice and get to know professional life. You also learn how to put theoretical knowledge into practice during your studies. Practical studies at universities of applied sciences can thus make it easier for you to start your career.

In 2012, general tuition fees were abolished in Baden-Württemberg. Tuition fees can still be charged at private universities.

Ravensburg-Weingarten University charges a semester fee per semester which amounts to approximately 180 €. The exact amount of the current semester fee can be found under Fees and Financing can be found.

Rooms in shared flats, food, bus tickets - studying costs money, no question about it. An overview of the options for financing is available here: Fees and Financing.

To be able to study at a university, you need a university entrance qualification (HZB). This can be obtained, for example, through the Abitur at a general secondary school or the Fachhochschulreife at a vocational college or a specialized secondary school.

The Central Student Advisory Service at Ravensburg-Weingarten University can support you in your choice of studies and career.

Together with the Central Student Advisory Service you can find out your interests and abilities, your wishes and goals. But you can also contact the Central Student Advisory Service with general questions about studying, choosing a type of university, or with questions about your career choice and career prospects.

If you wish, you can prepare yourself for the counseling, for example with the orientation test what-study-me.de. If you have already taken the test, you are welcome to bring your TAN from the test with you. However, this is not a must.

Subject Advisory Service

In addition to the Central Student Advisory Service, there is also the Subject Student Advisory Service. This advisory service is aimed at all those who already have a degree program in mind and have specific questions about it. Each study program has its own student advisor. Sometimes they are other students, sometimes the deans, but all of them can give you an authentic impression of the subject of your choice.

Study on trial

Like many other colleges and universities, the RWU also offers the opportunity to take a trial study course. The online trial study program "Talentscanner" offers the opportunity to gain insights into the study content of various subjects at RWU. Instead of poring over brochures and sifting through module plans, you can test free of charge and without obligation whether your choice of study feels right and matches your expectations. Everything takes place online so that you can take part regardless of your location.

For which subjects is the trial study available?

You can currently choose from the following talent scanners:

  • Curiosity and interest in one of the talent scanners offered.
  • Approximately 20 to 25 hours of time, although the talent scanner can be completed flexibly in terms of time.
  • A smartphone, laptop or tablet is required.
  • Stable internet.

Because our talent scanner can be completed flexibly, you can start your desired trial study at any time. Simply send us an e-mail to talentscanner@rwu.de. Please note in the subject line which Talentscanner you would like to participate in (Talentscanner Mechanical Engineering, Talentscanner Technology & Management or Talentscanner Social Work). After successful receipt of your message we will send you the access to your Talentscanner online trial study.

Your e-mail address will only be stored for the purpose of registering you for a Talentscanner or to notify you about future Talentscanner start dates. If you do not wish to receive further messages, you can contact us at any time. We will remove you from the mailing list afterwards.

Have you read enough information and pored over enough brochures? Then get to know RWU in person. We regularly organize events and are represented at education fairs where we answer all your questions about studying, applying and financing.

Would you like to learn more about the degree program of your choice? We offer you the opportunity to take part in taster lectures and get an idea of your course of study on site. To do this, you attend a "real" lecture - no prior registration is necessary. This gives you an insight into the course content, you get to know professors and can exchange ideas with students. This way you can get an idea of what it's like on site.
