Technology
Technology, in general, is of course a wide field. But one thing is certain: Technology is the foundation . Our prosperity and so many little things to which we have become accustomed as a matter of course are based on technical achievements. Our view of the future is also focused on technical innovations. Will we succeed, for example, in finding answers to the climate crisis with technical innovations?
The RWU has its origins in technology. It was founded in 1964 with two degree programs at the time: Mechanical Engineering and Physical Engineering. This offering has been differentiated over the decades. Today, the technical degree programs range from Electrical Engineering to Computer Science to Media Design and Online-Marketing, from Automotive Engineering to Energy and Environmental Engineering to Electromobility.

Get a taste
At RWU, you have the opportunity to take a look at selected degree programs without any obligation and without any complications: The online taster program talent scanner also offers the following in the field of engineering:
Talentscanner Mechanical Engineering
In the orientation phase of the online trial study, you will be introduced to the basics of the following disciplines Automotive Engineering, Energy and Environmental Technology and Mechanical Engineering which are needed to solve the subsequent practical case studies. You will learn engineering fundamentals of design, materials science and other topics.
Talenscanner Physical Engineering
Optics, sensor technology and everything to do with physics as well as the development of new technical objects, these are the components of the trial study program Physical Engineering. In the in-depth phase, students then work on an innovation and present it to a fictitious investor at the end. Young tinkerers are given room for ideas and are accompanied in their implementation.
Advantages of the talent scanner
- Flexible and practical insight into the desired course of study: Get to know the typical questions and working techniques.
- Find out in which fields of activity you could work after graduation.
- Test your study skills and competencies and get to know fellow students.
- Complete a certificate.
- Alternative admission procedure if your numerus clausus is not sufficient.
- In the Talentscanner Mechanical Engineering 2 credits can be collected for a study at RWU. 2 credits replace a mandatory elective and mean a workload of 50 to 60 hours.
Online advising
The study program Electromobility offers regular online advising. You have questions about the study program? You just want to hear first-hand what it's like and what you do every day? Or do you want to know what you can do later with your studies? Then you've come to the right place. You can find the exact dates and the links to the video rooms on the study program pages.
Career opportunities
Your career opportunities after graduation are as broad as the range of technical courses offered at RWU. In general, it can be said that engineers are still in high demand and the earning opportunities are correspondingly good, even in the economically strong region of Upper Swabia-Lake Constance with its many globally active companies. The practical semester and the final thesis offer you the opportunity to get in touch with these companies already during your studies and to try out your first professional steps.
Here are a few keywords to show you how many different directions this can take:
- renewable energies and e-mobility,
- artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous driving,
- communications technology,
- automation,
- additive manufacturing and many more.
On the pages of the study programs you will find more information about the different professions.
teaching
A special feature are the so-called PLUS courses. The plus stands for "Plus Lehramt". In addition to technical subjects, these courses also teach didactic skills. The bachelor's degree enables you to enter professional life as an engineer. The subsequent master's degree qualifies you to teach at vocational schools. This program is offered at RWU in the following study programs Automotive Engineering PLUS and Computer Science/Electrical Engineering PLUS.
