The Formula Students Team of the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences is a group of dedicated students who have been working on building a Formula Student racing car since March 2008. Since 2018, the team has been designing and manufacturing two Formula vehicles, a CV (Combustion Vehicle) and a DV (Driverless Vehicle), i.e. an autonomously driving vehicle. Starting next season in 2021, they will develop an EV (Electric Vehicle) for the first time.
The motivation of the students is to work on challenging projects that confront them with the everyday problems of the development process. In doing so, they learn to work in a team, to coordinate teams and to select the optimal solution among various realization options. Both technical and economic aspects are considered. In this way, a cross-faculty cooperation of all faculties of the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences is created.
Formula Student is the world's largest design competition for students, founded in 1981 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the USA. The competition combines the "gray theory" of colleges and universities with practical experience on and off the race track. The challenge is to develop, design and manufacture a regulation-compliant formula race car over the course of a year. More than 500 teams worldwide now compete against each other with their racing cars in a series of competitions. However, it's not just about the fastest car, but the team with the best overall package consisting of design, costing, sales planning and performance on the race track.
