Ravensburg commercial schools visit RWU

In the penultimate week of school before the summer vacations, 38 inquisitive pupils from Gewerbliche Schule Ravensburg came to RWU to learn about studying at the university as part of a project week. In interactive technical workshops, the girls and boys were able to explore their interests and gain valuable insights into the Industrial Engineering and Management course.

The "Technology and Management" faculty organized and carried out the joint project week. Professor Dr. Jörg Eberhardt provided the introduction, and Professor Dr. Dirk Steffens explained in his lecture what "management" actually means. The students then split into four different technical workshop groups. There was a choice of: Robotics, measurement technology, 3D printing and bridge building.

The following day, the students got down to practical work: whether programming the Lego® robot, building a bridge out of paper and glue, constructing and 3D printing a railroad carriage or determining the speed of light using a microwave and chocolate, the students had fun experimenting. The morning was very entertaining for both the young talents and the eight workshop leaders involved. Afterwards, the young guests were given their tasks to work on at home.

"Valuable, regional cooperation"

For the grand finale of the project week, the students then presented their results and experiences from the workshops. The young software developers explained that their Lego® robot was able to traverse a labyrinth using sensors and time/path calculation. The bridge builders revealed their secret of successful bridge construction, taking into account special force effects. The measurement technology workshop illustrated its test results in a creative and entertaining video format. And the students who had been working on 3D printing presented their printed train carriages

"It was a lot of fun and I was able to gain new experiences," was one of the many positive responses from the students. The teachers from the vocational schools involved also expressed their thanks for the commitment of the university and the people involved. "We will be happy to maintain this valuable regional cooperation."
