The first event of the newly founded Center for Sustainability and Resilience at RWU took place on 18.12.2024 under the title "Think globally - act locally".
The evening's organizers, Professor Dr. Monika Schröttle and Professor Dr. Markus Pfeil, warmly welcomed the guests and explained the reason for founding the Center for Sustainability and Resilience. The topics of sustainability and resilience are to be bundled under a common umbrella at RWU - whether it's evening events, seminars or student projects. "We want to position ourselves more broadly; it's not just about the big and often difficult to grasp topics, such as climate protection," says Markus Pfeil, head of the center.
All of the university's faculties are therefore involved. This means that different perspectives have an impact on the center's upcoming projects. "We want to bring international ideas to the region," says Monika Schröttle. The center acts as a mediating point of contact and ensures networking around the topics of sustainability and resilience. It will also offer patronage for projects and actively anchor the topics in teaching. A further step in this context is the planned "summer school" next year.
The guests from wirundjetzt e.V., Sarina Gisa and Simon Neitzel, picked up exactly where they left off with their keynote speech. With their association, founded 14 years ago, they create connections between different people and between people and nature. "Sustainability is an attitude that I live by!" says Sarina Gisa. wirundjetzt e.V. is one of the supporting organizations of the so-called "Mitmach-Regionen", in which various people, initiatives and actors network to ensure a sustainable society. Numerous projects have already been created in this context, such as the documentary film "Our soil, our heritage" or the "Map of tomorrow", on which sustainable locations, such as restaurants or stores, can be found.
