Weingarten - The use of social media is being viewed more and more critically. Content created by artificial intelligence is particularly problematic in political contexts.
Bela Mutschler's seminar will take a closer look at the role of social media as a potential threat in a democracy. In particular, the use of deepfakes, i.e. content generated by artificial intelligence, raises questions in political communication. The lecture will analyze various examples and address important questions: How does social media influence the formation of political opinion? To what extent do deepfakes change the foundations of political communication? And what strategies could be developed to meet these challenges?
Bela Mutschler has been teaching and researching as a professor in the "Digital Business" department at Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences since 2008 and is currently Dean of the "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science" faculty. As a scientist and computer scientist, he is particularly interested in digitalization and the impact of digital technologies on companies, people and society.
