Weingarten - In sociology in particular, there is an increasing number of different diagnoses of the times that aim to capture current social developments. In this context, terms such as "singularization" or "polarization" - which describe, among other things, individual and communal demarcation tendencies - are repeatedly used.
Andreas Lange's seminar will explain the extent to which sociological diagnoses of the times and theories are helpful. Which current theses and theories are of particular importance and which are rather useless concepts, for example with regard to social polarization tendencies? In this context, we will discuss the society in which we currently live. What conclusions can we draw from the different models of society?
Andreas Lange is Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Work, Health and Care at RWU. He previously worked for the DJI e.V. in applied childhood, youth and family research. He studied, completed his doctorate and habilitated at the University of Konstanz. His work focuses on the sociology of media, childhood, youth and family as well as critical social theory.
