Weingarten - The welcome event for the first semester students of the summer semester took place together with the city of Weingarten in the Culture and Congress Center in Weingarten. A total of 350 young people are starting their studies at RWU in the summer semester. Lord Mayor Clemens Moll opened the event and welcomed the new students to the university town: "I am of course delighted that you have arrived here in Weingarten and have chosen RWU - a university with excellent teaching. And I would also like to invite you to get to know your university town better."

High demand for popular degree programs

Almost 900 applicants applied for the 350 places. The English-language Bachelor's degree course in Mechatronics, which has been offered for the first time this semester, was particularly popular, with students from eight countries opting for it. The Social Work and Business Administration and Management courses were also in high demand. Among the Master's degree courses, Business Administration and Entrepreneurship and Digital Business & Marketing Intelligence were the favorites.

"Science is open. Science needs the freedom to move."

RWU currently has around 20 percent international students who come from 63 countries to study at RWU. For example, they come from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Turkey, France, Portugal, Colombia, Korea, Cameroon and Thailand. "Go out into the world, use these contacts," Professor Dr. Thomas Spägele, Rector of RWU, urged the students. "Because we are currently living in a world in which borders seem to be going up again and I would encourage you not to join in this drawing of borders. Science is open. Science needs the freedom of movement."

Commitment and networking

Following the introduction of the Rectorate and the deans of the faculties, the student representatives and the student councils also welcomed their new arrivals. They invited students to get involved in initiatives and committees to help shape university life. After the event, the student councils gave their first semester students a tour of the city of Weingarten and the RWU campus.
