On January 26, RWU hosted the meeting of the chancellors of the universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg (HAW-BW). "We meet four to five times a year, each time at a different university," says RWU Chancellor Henning Rudewig.

In Weingarten, for example, the focus was on the position of HAW-BW in the upcoming talks on university funding from 2026. "Our aim is to be able to set priorities in the area of digitalization, for example," says Henning Rudewig.

Significant synergies possible by merging tasks

Another topic that occupied the chancellors in Weingarten was space management. The universities, like the universities in Baden-Württemberg, are required to reduce 20 percent of their office space and thus make a contribution to the "Climate-neutral state administration 2030" goal. Henning Rudewig says that the increase in home office rates since the coronavirus supports this plan. However, strategic space planning across an entire university location is needed.

In the future, the HAW-BW want to cooperate even more closely in the area of IT services. "Considerable synergies are possible by combining tasks," says Henning Rudewig. In this way, task clusters could be formed, which individual universities could then also take over for other locations.

"And finally," says the RWU Chancellor, "it is also the exchange of experience and networking that makes these meetings valuable. We share our experiences, which benefits everyone."
