Uni aus Peru macht Station in Weingarten

Partnerships connect Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences (RWU) with universities on all continents. From South America, a delegation of the National University of Engineering in Lima visited the university in Weingarten. The programme of the two-week European tour included universities and colleges in Italy, Spain and Germany. The visit day at RWU was organized in cooperation with the Welcome Center of CJD Ravensburg.

The contact to Peru was established by a visit of Rector Professor Dr. Thomas Spägele and Professor Dr. Jörg Wendorff to the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria Lima last year. Rector Spägele welcomed the South American guests and was delighted with the quick return visit. During the presentation of RWU by Professor Dr. Michael Pfeffer, Vice Rector for Research, International Affairs and Transfer, the practical semester integrated into the bachelor's programs met with particular interest. The guests were also impressed by the presentation of the Formula Student Team Weingarten.

A meeting with representatives of the local industry and social institutions from the region also took place. Claudia Siegele from the Welcome Center Bodensee-Oberschwaben of the CJD Württemberg then presented the varied activities of her institution. The aim was to support the integration of people from other cultural backgrounds in the Upper Swabian region. With this in mind, the Welcome Center is currently setting up a network for people of South American origin in the region and is cooperating with RWU.

Finally, a visit to the Airbus company took place. Ian Petersen, New Business Delevopement Manager of Airbus, welcomed the group and presented the activities of the company in Immenstaad. Afterwards, the group visited the production hall where Airbus equips medical containers and the new Integrated Technology Centre. Europe's largest air clean room is located in this technology centre. From the outside, the production of four satellites could be seen, each of which took several years to build.

The head of the Peruvian delegation, Vice Rector Dr. Gilberto Becerra, summed it up as follows: "The lecturers and students at both universities can benefit greatly from a close cooperation."
