In an increasingly globalized world, intercultural awareness is becoming more and more important. That's why the CLIC Language Center is offering the "Intercultural Sensitization" seminar this winter semester. The course will be taught as a block seminar on Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th by the international student team. All RWU students are welcome to participate. The course will be held in English and one credit can be earned.
The seminar is relevant both for international students who are confronted with a new culture and a different educational system in Germany, as well as German students whose current university and future working environments are becoming increasingly global. All those who are interested in gaining intercultural insights and skills are also invited.
Intercultural Awareness and Diversity
The seminar offers a space to focus on questions and challenges. The intercultural and interdisciplinary student team is there to help and guide. The program is a combination of professional presentations and activities, designed to teach and enhance intercultural competencies and, most importantly, an understanding of diversity. "We want to create an open space for respectful discussions that is free of any prejudices and where everyone can be who they are," say Prerana Pradeep, Johanna Hofmann, Tapan Taranath Hegde, and Praveen Balasubramanian from the Intercultural Sensitization team.
The course is interactive, audio-visual, and grounded in academic research. The content covers topics such as intercultural communication, culture and diversity, perception and stereotypes. Participants will acquire the knowledge and the corresponding skills through interaction in the form of games and role plays.
Gaining a Critical Skillset
"This event leverages participants' personal interest and vibrant discussions to create intercultural exchange," says CLIC director Natalia De Pascale Speck. "It's a great opportunity to reflect on cultural differences in the way we communicate and to gain the needed tools for respectful interaction and for working in international contexts." Gaining an appreciation for cultural differences encourages social integration in all facets of life.
