Last December, Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences was transformed into an international meeting place for prospective nursing professionals. Students and trainees from Austria, Switzerland and Germany came together to examine the future of the nursing profession and learn from each other.

Reflecting on and developing professional self-image

The event focused on intercultural dialog about the different framework conditions and challenges in the respective countries. Among other things, the participants discussed the diverse tasks of the nursing profession, the structural differences in training and the social position of nursing professionals. These discussions not only provided valuable insights into other perspectives, but also suggestions for reflecting on and further developing one's own professional self-image.

The event was much more than a professional exchange: it enabled participants to network and establish contacts across national borders. Especially at a time when the nursing profession is facing major challenges, such cooperation is invaluable. "It was inspiring to see how many differences there are in the professional fields of action, despite the common job title," emphasized a participant from Switzerland. A student from Austria added: "This exchange showed us that we can learn from each other and grow together."

The future needs exchange

The cross-border exchange not only gave the participants new impetus for their professional future, but also provided them with ideas for the further development of the nursing profession. The day was rounded off with a visit to the nursing laboratory and the VR laboratory in the Didactics Center, which offered many settings in the nursing sector and where the participants were able to enter the virtual world of nursing. Those responsible at Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences were delighted to have been such a place of dialog and inspiration and plan to expand this format in the coming years.

"The event showed how important interdisciplinary and international dialog is for nursing. Only together can the challenges of the future be overcome and nursing strengthened as a socially significant profession," summarizes Irena Schreyer, academic staff member of the nursing course.
