Presenting in a large hall in front of a large audience is not exactly part of everyday life for students, unlike giving presentations in the classroom. A course at Edith-Stein-Schule Ravensburg & Aulendorf visited the Immersive LearningLab at RWU Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences to try out the presentation techniques they had learned in a virtual space.

Pupils at the Edith-Stein-Schule usually give their first presentations in a packed hall as part of their final theses. Compared to traditional presentations, this is an unusually large setting, which can lead to a higher level of stress. There are usually no test options for this scenario. "We can design precisely this scenario in virtual reality and reproduce it again and again," reports Markus Rossa, Head of Immersive Learning at RWU.

In addition to getting to know a new lecture atmosphere, participants were able to receive an evaluation of their performance. Criteria such as speech, posture and contact with the audience were analyzed by an artificial intelligence system. These results were reflected on together in a group discussion after the presentations.

"It was very unusual and made me feel a bit insecure, but it worked out quite well," says student Stephanie Winkel, describing her experience. Her classmate Hanna Steidle adds: "It gave me the chance to practise properly and get feedback without being directly assessed."
